I'M HURT

I was pretty excited about the previous post. I thought it might resonate with some, surprise others, or at least generate a little bit of discussion. However, almost none of the above happened. As a matter of fact, according to my site meter, almost no one even read it. To be honest, that stings a little.

I offer my sincere thanks to the 4 or 5 of you who read it. I know it was long. I too am often guilty of either skimming or just plain not reading over-long posts. I guess I got what I deserved...

Do you feel sorry for me yet? Well, then READ THE STUPID THING!!!

Bro. Garry, I don't know what this will do to your interpretation of your stats, but I read it three times.

It was an interesting article, I didn't comment because to be honest, I am still "chewing on it". It has challenged my thinking on the topic in a good way.

I said all that to say this, you might be right.

Great post! I really enjoyed this one. It was short, sweet, and hard to beat!

Bro. Garry,
I read your post and certainly do agree with you.
Keep up the good work! Ilook for a new post every day.

No, I won't read it, and you can't make me, so there!

I did read it! Now get off my back! Sheesh!

I always find that the posts that I seem to labor most over, get the least interest.

Apparently the way to get people to read long posts is to put lots of pictures in them, and leaven lots of white space between paragraphs - it looks like several bite size quips rather than a giant verbose post.

If you want comments, Garry, you have to own a Beagle who will eat licorice candies, and then toss them up all over our house. I know one who is available.

I read all your posts, but I don't always comment because you have already said it so well.

I am a missionary living in Mexico (for many years) and I do indeed feel the same way about the "missionary methods" used by many. Because I am a Calvinist I do not fit in with those who win 500 or more per year and have a church attendance of 30. I am in agreement that the large numbers are used to draw in the money. As one missionary told me years ago . . . "you've got to jerk those tears brother". Needless to say that missionary seemed to always get larger offerings than I did.
Also, it is sad to say that there is a lot of dishonesty used by many missionaries for the sake of having more financial support. The fact is that if a missionary presents his work as something too good to be true it probably is.

By the way, I know of only one other Calvinist missionary here in Mexico. We are truly rare in this part of the world. Please pray for us.

Gordon,
Thanks for visiting, reading, and being honest. You said"...you might be right." Well, friend, I ain't never been wrong.

Steve,
You get a pass on reading my stuff. You've heard it all already. I ain't got nuthin' new.

Anon 1,
Thank you for your encouragement. Keep checking in, you never know when I might have a thought that lingers in my head long enough to become a post.

J.D.,
I am shocked at your your ...meanness.

Thirsty,
I'm not shocked at your meanness.

Daniel,
Or write something so powerful that it exposes wrong thinking and encourages rational, ethical, and scriptural thinking. For example, your post on birth control.

Kim,
Thanks for the offer, but I'm not sure I could communicate well with a Canadian beagle. Don't they speak French or somethin'? Anyway, we have two small grandsons staying with us a lot, so anything that eats, poops, and pukes is out of the question.
Seriously though, thanks for the compliment. I went fishin' and caught one.

Anon 2,
I cannot tell you how much your response means to me. Thank you for reading and commenting. Be assured that I will be praying for you as you labor for Him.

I'd like to know more about you and your work. You can e-mail me at: pastorgarryweaver@gmail.com

Garry:

Canadian Beagles definitely don't speak french, but they may speak Liberal, which is kind of related to speaking Democrat.

She may not say "bonjour" but she might just give you a well-presented argument for universal healthcare.

As for the compliment; anytime.

Hey! Don't yell at me. I read the thing!

(Actually, it was quite good and made a good point, even if it was a little long. It was not as long as the average post written by a certain son of yours).

Okay, I finally read the stupid thing too.

Turns out it's not stupid at all. Judging by the comments, I bet you're not hurt anymore either.

If you haven't read it already, I'd recommend Iain Murray's "Revival and Revivialism." It is longer than your blog post, however.

For now, though, let me just say, "Amen" and leave you with a reference: 2 Cor. 2:14-17.

Keep up the good work!

hmmm, I got a chuckle out of this today, you have some funny comments here today. I reread your post again today and still agree you are right on. Did I ask you if you have heard of Paul Washer? I thought of him when I read this article.

I felt guilty about eating (birthday cake and grubs) and running, so I read the post. I was struck by two things.

First, you need to attract readers who are less Bibliocentric if you want to stir up controversy and disagreement, because everybody here is agreeing with you. I believe you have squarely hit the target. I have probably (erroneously) used that term, “hungry for the gospel.” It’s something to keep in mind. Thanks.

Second, Daniel has given away my secret formula of shameless blogging.

Carver,
Thank you for reading and commenting. I don't necessarily want to stir up controversy, but I wasn't exactly looking for a lot of compliments either(not that I don't thrive on them). I just thought this might be something that would inspire some healthy discussion. However, I realize that I am preaching to the choir.

I liked the post. I especially appreciated your truthfulness. When you are truthful, the Spirit witnesses to me (and to others) that you are speaking the truth. So don't be sorry for the truth. There are so many people out there who will recognize it right away.
