'NUTHER OLD CAR

For those who were wondering what ever happened to the '86 Monte Carlo, well... I traded it. I cleaned it up a bit, got it running, put new tires on the original wheels, and mounted them on the car...then I traded it for this 67 Impala 2 dr hard top.

When I first got this car, it had just been painted. It was originally blue, but the guy I got it from painted it a Cadillac pearl white (I would have preferred the original color, but the white looks good too.) The body of the car had been stripped of all chrome, both bumpers, and all the lights. Every thing was piled inside the car. I still don't have all the moldings put back in place, and the interior needs re-working, but it is a sweet driving car.

You will notice that I put a set of 15"x 8" Corvette rally wheels with 235/70 Uniroyal Tiger Paw radials on it. These are my favorite wheels, and I usually put them on every old Chevy I get. This car came from the factory with 14 inch wheels and tires, a 283 cubic inch v8 engine with a 2 barrel carb, and a 2 speed "Power Glide transmission. Under the hood, it's all original. It even has factory A/C (Which I hope to have working soon).

More pictures to come!

P.S. If you look closely, you can see a little bit of the Doodle-Bug that I got while blindly stumbling in automotive sin. You can also see that I could easily win Jeff Foxworthy's redneck yard award.

That's better, Garry. The Monte was too new.

A New Beetle?!! I don't feel so bad about my Japanese cars now (though why should I, I don't have "Chevys" in my blog title).

By the way, we've been trying to convince our little girls that New Beetles are not "bugs," (to foil Punch Buggy, naturally). I even spotted a N.B. in Edmonton with a personalized plate that said "NOTTBUG." Now you go and call your rig a bug. Sheesh.

I'm sorry if this opens a firestorm of "bug or not bug" comments on your blog.

Terry,
Just DON'T call it Herbie.

This is another example of how sin works. Because of my automotive peccadillo,You have been emboldened to not feel bad about your automotive infidelity. I am truly ashamed.

I bet you look real good putting in that German car.

I like this one better, too. The VW kind of reminds me of you. It would be impolite to say why.

Thirsty,
The only reason I don't give you a cyber-nose-bustin' is that, on those rare occasions in which I write something serious, you sometimes link me.

BTW If you think it reminds you of me now, you should see it with both doors open.

While I was growing up the '67 Impala was my favorite car to look at. You've got a sweety there. Paint it blue again.

Mark,
I would love to paint it Marina Blue, but apparently the people I know who can do a paint job that I would be pleased with, are just in it for the money.

Still, you've got a sweety there. Up here things rust, consequently I don't see 'um like that more than, maybe, once a year. That was a pleasure to see this pictures.

That's a pretty car in that picture. The Impala doesn't look bad either.

I like a 63 impala better, preferably with the 409 V8.

Classy.

I've always loved "big cars". My first two cars were Oldsmobiles. And I always enjoy watching those big boat-like Impalas float on by.

Enjoy them!

Nice blog. I found you through purgotorio1.com. Nice car. My father owns a '67 SS 427 4 Spd. Marina blue white vinyl. I never would believe a car that big could go that fast!

Bro. Garry

That is a beautiful '67! My first car, & what the Lord used to point me to Christ was a '65 Impala SS with 327/250 HP. I really enjoyed that ol' mo-chine! Glad to find you in blogdom! God Bless.

I really like the white paint on this Chevy. It’s probably because I’ve always liked that color on cars because it made them look clean. I would love to see its original color though. And I think changing the wheels was a good move, as it somehow made the car look less heavy.

I like that you kept everything under the hood original. Considering how low this Chevy rides, I also really like that you switched the wheels for ones that are slightly bigger. Are those the original rims, or did you have to switch them as well when you changed the tires?

I can’t imagine myself trading a race car, but then I know I’m gonna have a tough time deciding if I were faced with an Impala. Though I haven’t seen it with the blue paint, I can say that white is better for the redesigned styling of the ‘67. :) It’s still got that prestigious air to it.
